Only in a Dream

Trudging through the muck,
dark and ungiving.
Sliver shards fall from the sky.
Embedding deep.
Infecting my memory,
staining the truth.

Searching for you, time is running low.
Finding you in the dark,
we entwine, melding together.
Dark dancers trickle by,
tipping their hats at our union.

The light rises,
ripping in to our sanctuary.
Hunting us down, as it rages in the sky.
Once again the lies invade us,
torturing words lash out.
All defenses shattered.
All reason gone.

Walking in the cruel light,
I wait for you.
To once again take me
on the mid-night river.
Spiraling downward,
Into your arms.
