Comic Song with MELODY ADDED. For Cassandra

The Old Days (con gusto) Old Hull, Quebec. October 29, 2003. I wish I had a closet full of Old Days There were never any there when I was young They were always at the movies Or in the picture books Or in the silly songs that were sung How is it, now I'm old I'm so very often told That I lived in the Good Old Days? If I ever get a closet full of Old Days That 'll be a sight to see I'll slip them off their hangers And try them on for size And keep just the ones that fit me The rest I'm gonna share For it isn't really fair To monopolize the Good Old Days! So, if you have a closet full of Old Days To comfort you when you feel down Won't you tell me where you got them? Did you win them in a raffle? Did you find them in the street down town? But if ever you can spare some Why not wrap them and address 'em To this relic of the Good Old Days! MELODY(high notes in CAPITAL letters) 4/4 TIME I wish I had a closet full of Old Days //....soh....soh....lah....soh....//me..doh..(-) There were never any there when I was young doh......//..DOH........RAY............DOH//lah.(-).(-) They were always at the movies ...DOH.........//DOH............RAY Or in the picture books lah//soh...............lah. Or in the silly songs that were sung me//ray............me....ray....me//soh.(-).(-) How is it, now I'm old DOH//.................RAY I'm so very often told lah.....//soh........lah That I lived in the Good Old Days? me...//ray....ray....soh....me//doh.(-).(-) Optional repetition of last line: That I lived in the Good Old Days? ...me...//ray...ray....lah....te//...DOH. [(soh)(DOH)] Note 1 . Should the melody seem too complicated, just forget about the notes before the first "//" in each line; they will come naturally. Note 2. It took me some time and effort to compose the melody for this song but it has now become so familiar to me that it sounds like a melody I have always known. Should it already exist, after all, please let me know. Note 2. I sang this for my grand-daughter, Cassandra, while doing a soft-shoe shuffle. She was too young to understand a word, but she joined in the dance with great enthusiasm. I do not hope for a better rating than that! |
