A poem about a Christmas from my past.
}
Christmas Ago

Every year at Christmas my thoughts escape to my past.
To my home in Kentucky were precious memories will last.
An old gray shingled house with a front porch made of Oak.
That the snow often covered as Christmas day approached.

Where Mom and Dad raised ten children with loving care.
We were a poor family still we had a lot of love to share.
On Christmas day we shared hard candy from a big bowl.
Bananas, apples, and oranges, were under Mom's control.

Boys would cut a Cedar tree down and drag it from the hill.
The girls would decorate it with ribbons and colorful frills.
Christmas mornings in Kentucky were usually very cold.
We kids would gather and talk around the old coal stove.

If we received any gifts it was usually shoes or clothes.
A pair of socks for brother Jerry, shoes for sister Rose.
Then we would all gather at the big oak kitchen table.
To give thanks then we ate until we were no longer able.

Christmas in Kentucky will stay as a treasured memory.
With Mom, Dad, and all kids and that old Christmas tree.
To this day I think of all my Christmas's in the old home.
With Mom, Dad, and all my siblings, before I was alone.
