first written several years ago as a memorial for my puppy dog
A True Friend, Ah Bo

He came into my life less than three years ago,
a ball of fur with four paws, a tail,
and a little wet nose.
Throughout his life,
he was so curious and so very brave.
He used to think his box was a deep, dark cave.

He had grown so big
since he was just a pup,
Now the time we had spent together
is forever gone and up.
During his life,
he was so loyal and true,
He could cheer me up with his tricks
whenever I was blue.

He had so much fun
playing with others,
Bugging the cat and play fighting
with his big brother.
He loved to run, jump, and play catch,
We were so close, a seemingly perfect match.

Why was he poisoned
and why did he have to die,
He was still so young
but now I must say goodbye.
Who could have been so mean, so cruel,
To have taken my friend, my jewel.

You were a part of my family,
a part that I was force to let go,
I will miss you so much
my friend, Ah Bo.

Ah Bo is Chinese for "jewel"
He died during a time when someone was poisoning many of the large dogs in the county.
Though it has been over five years since his death, I still miss him.
