They are now officially the largest, richest, and most influential group of people in America. Who are they? Simply, they are the AAPO, or more specifically the American Association of Pet Owners. An independent, non-partisan group of people, the AAPO is now a force that will be recognized as the leading voice for all American pet owners, young and old, regardless of race, greed, and color. They will regularly monitor the concerns and opinions of its members and encourage legislative policy that reflects their concerns. Their ranks have grown to staggering numbers almost overnight through the judicious use of the World Wide Web. The AAPO is holding its first National convention at The Washington Convention Center, located in the heart of the nation’s capital. The 2.3 million square feet of space is officially filled and completely sold out. This group is also sponsoring satellite convention sites across America, linking all the sites by live real time satellite broadcast. This new group's mission is to develop public policies, on local, state and Federal levels that will influence and advance the status of people through pet ownership. On the Internet and through the use of other interactive communications media they will lobby to create constitutional rights to be given to all American pets equally. No dog and catfights here, this is a campaign that unites, not divides. Their interactive website encourages you to sign up to be a watchdog in your local communities, and lobby the members of Congress. This group is dedicated to raising consumers’ awareness of their campaign to elevate all pets to an equal status with their owners. They want to allow owners of any pet to enter their animal into all political elections. Yes, they are demanding representation, and they want seats in the Senate and Congress. Folks this is a grassroots effort to allow all pets everywhere the right to fly and dine equally with their owners wherever, and whenever their owners chooses. Their slogan is simple, “Pets are people, too.” Although their slogan is not unique or original, it is proving to be very effective in garnering more support than any other campaign in our nations history. Every convention attendee is required to bring his or her pet with him or her in order to register and be admitted. The accommodations that are being made available for pets with their owners are unprecedented. The only requirement for official membership in AAPO is that you own a pet. Educational seminars are offered on a wide range of topics concerning every aspect of pet ownership. Every pet food manufacturer in America has purchased booth space at this convention, and is offering opportunities for pet owners to enter into product endorsement negotiations. There are housing consultants offering total home makeovers that will assist pet owners in providing the best of the best in what the housing industry is now calling, “the new home pet-friendly atmosphere.” And pet owners seem to be lapping it all up. The Restaurant Association has jumped on board with suggestions that will now encourage its members to make a special menu for peoples pets dining pleasure. All commercial airlines have announced that pet owners will now be allowed to have their pets fly with them. The airlines are now recognizing pets as a whole new segment of American society as fare paying customers. In addition, the largest insurance companies across America have purchased their space at the convention, and are offering the same array of polices that have been available to the pets human counterparts. Major banking institutions are touting new retirement programs and savings accounts that target peoples' pets. Various departments of the United States government have now admitted to being pressured to create new and separate programs that are equal to those that serve man’s best friends. Plans for residential retirement communities are being presented to convention goers. The scale and scope of this convention is proving that there is a whole new untapped market of consumers – The American Pet. This is a turning point in American history.
