For the StoryMaster and StoryMistress

Preformed Live at the 2004 Writing.Com Convention Open Mic Night Friday July 30th

In a far off land in cyberspace, a man became a Master. He thought it only fitting that he would find the perfect Mistress to share his life with. Being a Master, he had a great vision, which he willingly shared with his Mistress. Being a very creative person herself, she had a few visions of her own. Together they settled into a little country place called Stories.Com and invited everyone they knew to visit with them in cyberspace and tell stories.

They soon found they needed an addition to their little place, and moved some folks around. It got so confusing they decided to give everyone a portfolio of their own. Well it didn’t take long till they were overloaded once again and realized their vision needed a much larger space.

So, they turned their little country place into a city and renamed it Writing.Com. Now things were going really well for the Master and the Mistress, and being in cyberspace you never really got to sit down with anyone and just chat.

The Mistress loved parties and decided it was time to have one. Now of course there were a few minor points that had to be worked through, like where would they all stay. So they arranged to travel to a place on earth called Baltimore and hoped everyone would attend.

Well they had so much fun; they just had to do it again. The following year they ventured to another place called King of Prussia. And while the Mistress was busy planning, the Master made a few plans of his own.

Now I hope that you will bear with me, as I continue this special story about two people that we all know. And of course, since we are members of a writing site, I thought it only appropriate that we should do it with the most used tool on the site. The alphabetic letter.

I’d really like your help with this, and I even brought along some cue cards for you so you won’t get lost. So, what I will do is show you a card and then you can shout out the letter so that I will know what letter of the story I’m on.

Sound like a good plan.

Great.

Then here we go.

A

StoryMistress is the apple of StoryMaster’s eye and he will admit it to everyone and anyone.

B

But that is because he is just a big ole’ teddy bear.

C

And she is as cute as a kitten. I bet the Catwoman had something to do with that.

D

StoryMaster has been ducking the question for a couple years now, not that the StoryMistress was rushing him.

E

But we all know an elephant never forgets, and the in-laws were getting antsy.

F

They were sure to throw him into the river to swim with the fishes if he didn’t do something soon.

G

So, he put on a set of magnifying glasses when he was secretly out of town.

H

And there he tried a variety of rings on the little finger of his left hand until he found the perfect one.

I

A stone perfectly cut just like an ice brick found in an igloo.

J

He thought about hiding it in a jar, but figured the StoryMistress would find it there, so StoryMaster decided to give it to his father Jerry for safekeeping.

K

StoryMaster hoped the StoryMistress would be pleased, and he trusted she would not tell him to go fly a kite.

L

He became as ferocious as a lion when he swore his family to secrecy, just to ensure StoryMistress would not find out ahead of schedule.

M

You know the old antic Monkey see – Monkey do. Well the StoryMaster had to learn quickly in order to become a magician in time for the convention. And he had to keep that a secret too.

N

Could you imagine the newspaper headlines? “StoryMaster places rabbit on finger of StoryMistress in the final act at Writing.Com’s 2nd convention.

O

After the magical moment, it seemed as if the StoryMistress had been captured by an octopus. She was passed from one set of arms to another.

P

You would have thought that fresh mud had been put in the pigpen and an open invitation for everyone to join in was announced. There were so many people on that stage it’s a wonder it didn’t collapse.

Q

And then of course all the questions started. When are you getting married? Will you do it at next year’s convention? We all want to come too!

R

It sure was like watching a rainbow in its entire splendor as the two of them made their commitment to each other in front of all of us.

S

StoryMaster was certainly the star performer that night and he couldn’t have had a more willing leading lady.

T

He may have been as slow as a turtle in asking for her hand in marriage, but it was well worth the wait in the end.

U

They sure won’t need a umbrella in their future as the sun couldn’t help but shine on such a perfect match.

V

I can hear the violin’s now. Playing a romantic song as they celebrate their first dance together and everyone watches on.

W

So, be sure to watch your calendars, for the big event is soon to come. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to be there in person, but we can sure be there in spirit.

X

After all, you don’t need an x-ray machine to see the love they share with each other. And it won’t be hard to imagine the wedding they will have.

Y

They have mastered the relationship yo-yo. Perfecting it has made their union strong.

Z

Just like a Zebra who has combined black and white into the perfect markings, the two of you have combined into the perfect relationship, and together you are one.

I’d like everyone to join me now in a toast to our hosts. You both have provided all of us with a place to call home, one that we are always welcome in. Without your vision, we never would have met, nor would I be standing here, raising my glass to an exceptional couple that is wished all the best in their forthcoming marriage. May your life together always be a series of new adventures, loving family and friends, and all of us at Writing.Com. Cheers.
