If I describe it, I'll give away the ending. |
A young woman, only appearing to be 20 or so, stood on an empty playground. She was tall somewhere around 5'10". She had long died black hair that was pulled back into a waist length braid. She wore tall black boots, black jeans, and a longsleeved black dress shirt. Her stunning amethyst eyes were rimmed in jet black kohl, and her full lips were tinted with an earth toned lipstick. She looked over the playground with a reminiscent look on her face. First she looked at the jungle gym, she had spent many hours in her childhood climbing the gleaming metal towers. Next came the monkey bars. It seemed like just yesterday that she was jumping up and down with her friends, excited over making it the whole way across for the first time. She quietly strolled over to them and a brilliant smile lit up her face as her eyes came level with the bars. She laughed quietly and continued her trip down memory lane. The merry-go-round stood still, but in her minds eye a dozen children spun around it, some pushing, some sitting, she could almost hear the laughter. The slides held still more fond memories, they had been one of her favorite things to do as a child. She could still remeber her grandmother admonishing her for going down the slide in a skirt. Silently she moved over to the swings. How she missed spending entire recesses doing nothing but sitting and swinging! With a barely audible sigh she sat down quietly on one of the swings and began to sway back and forth gently. Meanwhile a young man, around her age, wandered on to the playground. He looked around himself and let out a shaky sigh. He was dressed in a black suit and tie. He had recently come from his best friend's funeral. She had commited suicide. Thinking back, he had realized that she had never truly been happy since they had left elementary school together. Now he could only hope that her troubled soul had found the peace that it had longed for. As he turned to leave he noticed that one of the swings on the playground was swaying gently back and forth for no apparent reason. Thinking nothing of it, he went back to his car and drove away. |
