Not to be confused with the Red Book of Westmarch, we are just pilgrims on the Tolkien trail, exploring the history, people, and events of all the ages of Middle-earth, the Blessed Realm, and the lands that lie beneath the wave. Whether you need to know more about the Elvish languages, find out what new editions of old favorites are coming to market, read in-depth commentary on Tolkien’s thematic elements, or peruse fan-submitted original works or humor, Ostadan, Turgon, Quickbeam, Anwyn, and Tookish have a little something for everyone. Quenya Lapseparma http://www.elvish.org/elm/names.html recommended by rose_shadow It seems that almost everyone who interested in Tolkien and particularly in his invented languages played with an idea to have his/her own name in an Elvish language. Some use names taken from Tolkien's books, while the others try to coin their own Elvish nickname. It seems to be a common habit. Sometimes people create their own poetic Elvish name and sometimes they try to translate the meaning of their real name into Elvish. Tolkien {link: http://www.forodrim.org/arda/tbchron.html} recommnded by rose_shadow The aim of the chronological bibliography given below is to give a complete record of Professor J.R.R. Tolkien's published writings: books, contributions to books, and contributions to periodicals. And...let us not forget a bow to those who blog about myth, language and Professor Tolkien. The Influence of Norse Mythology on Medieval Fantasy {link: http://emilyvasas.com/europe/medieval-fantasy/ Walkinbird 3 Jan 1892 I liked this article because it cites its references (author is a history major), and recognizes that while Tolkien was attempting to create a mythology for England (even King Arthur is sometimes claimed by the French), Tolkien used Norse mythology to re-enliven interest in it. |
