EYE OF THE STORM

The lightning flashed and thunder rolled
across the sky, the story's told;
A mother's heart is filled with fear,
her child is not home, nowhere near.

The streams are swelling, power is out;
the wind is tossing the trees about
and she goes to the window once again
trying to see some sign of him.

Hours pass and the storm rages on,
she stays awake until the dawn -
Sleep comes forbidden, against her will;
No sign of him, but the storm's now still.

A gentle hand upon her own,
She wakes to find her son is home.
With happy heart she greets the morn,
he came through the eye of the storm.
