This is a poem about silence, which came to me one night.
SILENCE

It's two o'clock in the morning.
Finally, the house is silent.
I plunge into it
as though skinny dipping
quietly at night
in the dark
without anything
or anyone near.

I wander
the universe
with its string theory,
eleven dimensions,
different religions,
blades of grass
under my feet
and the silence
that comes in from the sea.

I live in the silence
as a manatee lives in the water,
as a seagull lives in the air,
as a blue heron lives by the lake,
as a center of fire
lives in the earth,
spilling lava everywhere,
more dangerous than a rattlesnake.
