A small, cute, 8 line French form
I WISH YOU WERE ONLY MINE: a triolet—award winner

I wish you were only mine
But that is not to be!
In spite of the nature thine,
I wish you were only mine.

I think it is wish divine
That you may be so free.
I wish you were only mine
But that is not to be!

* Written as a triolet, which is an eight line ABaA abAB French form, where capitals indicate that the whole line is repeated. Thus, the line A is repeated as first, fourth and seventh line. Line B is repeated as second and last line. As can be seen, the two opening lines are repeated at the end.

* There is no laid down syllable scheme. The format used here is 7677, 7676.

* Awarded prize in the Writers’ Cramp contest {item: 333655}, 12 March 2005
