It grew from an acorn into a strong oak tree.
Gave me shade from the hot days and humidity,
Never asked for anything in trade or return,
Shared Mother Earth with a few green ferns.
A home to the gray squirrel and a sight to see!
My friend shares its beauty and wisdom with me,
Stoic and silent against what nature doles out,
Stood The Storm of The Century strong and stout!
I'll lose something special if it's ever cut down.
A serene sentinel that towers above ground!
With timeless vigilance it stands in my yard.
It's bark so knarled, twisted and scarred!
The lessons learned from this friend of mine,
Tell of burdens borne in the passage of time,
The strength and wisdom passed on to me,
I'll never forget the face of my friend the tree!
