Children's poem about imagination and what to do when it runs away with you.

Are you the kind of person
who knows how to believe
in dancing purple unicorns
and mermaids from the sea?

Then you’re the kind of person
who’d completely understand
this special little story
about a wondrous land.

If you believe in magic,
if you trust in fantasy,
close your eyes, turn around,
come make a dream with me.

Pretend your arms have turned to wings
and reach up very high,
now feel the wind and fly away
o’er the rainbow in the sky.

When you feel the sunbeams
fall full upon your face,
stop and take a look around
at this magical place.

It’s the Imagination Zoo,
for people big and small,
for wishes and adventures
and dreams for one and all.

There’s colored skies and rainbows,
wide oceans and tall trees
where you can track a tiger,
or sail the seven seas.

Imagine you’re a pirate,
or a brave and mighty warrior,
a dragon-fighting lady
or a knight in shining armor.

Not everyone can visit,
though the Zoo is never far,
it takes a special person
to really wish upon a star.

You have to climb a moonbeam
to hold stardust in your hands,
you must ride a magic carpet
to visit distant lands.

You must be good at dreaming
to tame dragons with a lance,
you must believe in magic
to see elves and fairies dance.

Sometimes you may discover
while you lie awake at night,
that a visit to the Zoo
can give you quite a fright.

If the wind is howling and
it’s dark outside your door,
you may imagine noises
like you’ve never heard before.

If you are not careful,
it could get a little scary;
you may imagine monsters
and critters big and hairy.

A little bit of shadow
can paint ogres on the floor,
a little bit of searching
may find trolls behind the door.

You must be careful with these types,
don’t let them see your fear;
but there is something you can do
to stop them coming near -

When your visit to the Zoo
is over for the night,
make the creepies disappear
by turning on the light!

Let the Sandman and his dust
take care of all your fright
and leave you dreaming peacefully
of rainbow days and moonlit nights.

If you believe in magic,
if you trust in fantasy,
close your eyes, fly away,
come make a dream with me…
