This is a poem for a poetry class that started out stupid but turned out serious |
Blue crayons look green As I begin to sing I'm hurting my back This is what happens when I try to relax As I begin to sing People cover their ears This is what happens when I try to relax This is what happens when I'm selfish People cover their ears To avoid being told what to do This is what happens when I'm selfish Everything is taken away To avoid being told what to do Wars are started Everything is taken away When actions speak louder than words Wars are started Without we the people being consulted with When actions speak louder than words And this war speaks louder than anything I've ever heard Without we the people being consulted with We live in a state of unknowing And this war speaks louder than anything I've ever heard Louder than my house when I was growing up We live in a state of unknowing Our dad could blow up at any time Louder than my house when I was growing up My ears still ring with his angry screaming Our dad could blow up at any time Little things can be a big deal My ears still ring with his angry screaming And my mother's silence, louder even than his yell Little things can be a big deal If they are looked at that way And my mother's silence, louder even than his yell Pain courses through the blood stream If they are looked at that way Some people will get depressed Pain courses through the blood stream Our society does not accept them Some people will get depressed Death is like a magnet Our society does not accept them It accepts no one that is different Death is like a magnet To the poor and homeless We accept no one that is different They don't have anything To the poor and homeless We must look greedy They don't have anything We take it all away We must be greedy To get by in this world today We take everything away By our pushing, shoving, hurting, mangling To get by in this world today We need leaders that honestly care They won't take it all away Everything we have worked for to get where we are |
