Five girls have elemental powers and now they are being hunted by scientists. |
Summer clasped her hands together as she rocked back and forth slowly. Her eyes were glazing over as she stared off into space, thinking and worrying. Her brunette hair was sprinkled with dirt, and dust streaked her face from tears. Her casual clothes were also messy with dirt, her shoes caked with mud. She was seated in an underground cavern. Only a small hole in the top let in sunlight, and air. The walls around her were smooth, as if a bubble was just formed and expanded, then popped to at the size of a bathroom. A small pool of water was set in the center, not too big, but large enough to lie in and sit on the bottom with the water line to your neck. Two other girls sat in the underground room with her, Maddi and Lydia. Maddi was hovering on a rock, as usual. Her red hair was slightly damp, but the random gusts of wind coming from the hole were slowly drying it. Lydia sat on the ground, prodding a finger into the dirt and drawing little stick people. The area around her was dry, leaving a thin coat of dust over her. Like Nikki, each of the girls was special. Maddi held control over the earth, dirt, and any minerals. Summer conducted the winds and air everywhere. While Lydia was in control of water, and any other form of precipitation. Sam, who wasn’t there with her three friends, held power over all forms of electricity. Now the three girls, without two of their friends, met and formed a place of hideout. Besides only them in the room, there was a small radio. It was set on a random channel, a lurking one. It was sputter out static and catch phrases from hosts on different radio stations, but it was mainly silent. “What if she’s dead, too? What will we do? How will we know?” Summer’s shaking voice shattered the silence. “What if they come? They know about us, right? They know we exist and now they’ll come for us!” “Calm down, Summer.” Lydia spoke, her voice gentle yet firm. “We’re alright; Sam should contact us at any time. And nobody knows about us, they just think we’re missing, nothing bad.” “But what if Summer’s right. I mean, we are friends of Nikki, and then suddenly all four of us disappear? They’re investigators, they’ll surely put those two together and come after us.” Maddi added. “Yeah, that’s possible. But how would they fine us?” Lydia reminded them how hidden they were. “So we’re safe,” “For now…” Summer muttered. If anyone heard her, they didn’t show it. “Breaker, breaker long holler,” The static filled voice burst over the radio. “This is your girl…” “Sam!” Summer lunged at the radio, pressing the button and shouting in. “Sam! Oh my gosh! You’re safe! I was so worried about you! What’s happening?“ “Hehe, it’s okay, Summer. No need to use the mic, just let the radio sit. I can hear you all just fine from within.” Sam’s voice became clearer. “Everything’s fine here. I’ve been monitoring all calls to and from your guys’ parents, Nikki’s too, and the police station. And some of the news. The cops think you guys ran away, just like everyone else. It seems many of our classmates and others who were at the game ran away. So they don’t suspect anything about you guys. About me…well…that’s another story. They’re out for me, but it’ll take them forever to figure out I’m surfing through the electrical wiring of all Pella. What about you guys, how are you doing?” “We’re fine,” Maddi said. “We have enough water to drown a city and enough oxygen to populate Mars. I’m getting vegetables from a nearby farm with them think its rabbits.” “Summer was just worried, but that’s mainly it.” Lydia said in a dull voice. “But mainly it’s boredom, and waiting for you to contact us every other day. So we’ve been venturing.” “And we’ve been training. Just messing around fighting each other, pretty simple things.” Summer said, regaining confidence. Sam cut her off, “Hey, I gotta go. I think people have been tracing me. It’s just an odd feeling. So I’ll see you guys in two days. Take care!” With another static burst, she was gone. “Sir, we have confirmation about the hacker within our systems.” A male voice came over the radio. “Good, get rid of it.” Came the reply. Summer gasped. |
