I was sent to the library once to choose a book to to do a report on. I told my teacher the title of my book and he sent me back to the library because the book I held was not "true American literature." I read it anyway, wrote the report and failed the class because I didn't listen to him. Now, every book I find written by that author, or any his associates, I read without hesitation. And since I read nothing but the Beats, I like to write that way, too. The book was "On the Road."
