Bookends

time calls
condemned to corporeal fate
pushed from comforting darkness
kicking and screaming
mourning ignorant bliss

spring erupts with eager hope
endless tapestry awaits
grand designs unfold
self-interest vies with good intent
plot lines twist and warp
treacherous time runs out
winter ash drifts down in rue

fearing the great unknown
raging and pleading
pulled into terrible darkness
life sentence commuted
time served

The first and last lines form a couplet, as do the second and second to last lines, and so on.

The couplets all surround a central line which describes the challenge of being human.
