Twenty Years of Me Time at Dawn |
Twenty Years of Me Time at Dawn 35 lines Twenty years ago I started my day With me time, Starting at 5:30 a.m. By writing In my journals. Writing down my dreams My aspirations, my poems And short stories. I now have about 10,000 Short stories and poetry fragments. And mini-novelas as well. I don’t dream “dreams” Rather I dream of full-blow movies Complete with cinematic color Sounds, music, and characters. Often at 0 dark hundred I have insomnia And go down dark rabbit holes Into nightmare lands. Which I turn into flash fiction Horror mini-stories Or neo-beatnik outlaw poetry As the sun comes up. While listening and watching the news Making my plans for the day As I wrote down what happened The day before. That is how I started my day Been doing that every day. I have not missed a single day But due to random computer meltdowns Have lost a few days or even weeks From time to time. NEW PROMPT: Tomorrow, September 11, is an important anniversary: Mine, on this site, 20 years. Write a story or poem about sticking with something for 20 years. I have been keeping a daily journal since my early 40’s. I never missed a day. O Dark Hundred is military/intel jargon for the time, two hours before dawn when military special forces and intel types get up to prepare for dawn operations. Depending upon the time of year and location it can be from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. I often have insomnia and vivid nightmares at o dark hundred which for me is usually 3 to 4 a.m.. |
