A short poem for my wife
I couldn't make the floodwaters recede,
The waves too vast, and I too small;
A simple girl against the endless sea—
No miracle to halt the swell to call.

But if I can chase away your hidden sorrow,
If my smile can dry your tears tonight,
Then maybe all the divinity I need
Is here within this gentle, human light.

No miracles, no heavenly decree,
Just hands entwined through every storm—
And maybe, just maybe, that’s enough,
To keep each other safe and warm.
