Entry for the "13" writing activity
The goblin hated Halloween. He actually used to love it but that changed when it turned into something he didn't like. In fact, it used to be much spookier.
These days, instead of it being all about the paranormal it was more about the thinning of the veils between the living and the dead, in a remembrance kind of way. People thought of passed loved ones and even had ceremonies to commemorate them. And there were parties, trick-or-treating and cheesy decorations.
None of these things appealed to the goblin. and he was determined to do something about it.
When the townspeople were asleep, he stole decorations off of lawns.
At Halloween parties, he snuck in and stole food and one time, even the punch bowl.
But trick-or-treat night is when he played his biggest prank.
While unsuspecting children and parents weren't looking, he stole candy out of treat bags and whole bowls of candy if any brave person dared leave a free-for-all container of candy outside.
At one point he passed a lawn with a huge Halloween display with flashing lights, animatronics , and a table flled with candy and ghoulish decorations.
One of these animatronic decorations was a goblin with red lights for eyes.
The goblin looked at the make-believe goblin and muttered to himself,"nice job."
That lawn goblin could not do what he could do however which was to steal Halloween.
When he had amassed all the loot he wanted in his dwelling, a cave deep in the forest, he made a plan to dispose of it all but he was not yet sure how to do it.

Meanwhile, some teenagers who wanted to have a spooky night in the forest were unwittingly headed toward the goblin's lair. They had no particular plan. One played scary music on their phone while one held a flashlight and shined it on any noise they heard.
When they got to the middle of the forest they discovered the goblin's cave.
At first they hesitated to go on as it was dark and they were afraid of what they might meet inside.
And it was a founded fear, as the goblin's glowing red eyes were coming closer to them.
As the flashlight shined on the creature, they could not move for the terror.
The flashlight also revealed the stolen massive Halloween stash.
"You took all of this stuff!" one of them exclaimed.
The goblin was busted and he considered trying to eat them but there were too many.
“And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” he loudly exclaimed in his growling voice.
The goblin then revealed why he had the stash, the teens doing the best they could to talk to the him despite their fear and tried to reason with him saying Halloween was still very spooky.
They offered to take him to a haunted house to prove it to him and he agreed.
They had a couple containers of mace for protection as they led him out. They walked out of the forest and to the nearest haunted house.
The goblin was delighted as he was scared out of his wits and everyone that was in the haunted house remarked at what a realistic costume he had.
When they exited the haunted house something strange started to happen to the goblin. He started melting and then what was left of him formed a glittering red star and shot up to the sky.
His lifetime was over and his fondest wish was granted.

The teens were still in shock over the goblin experience and tried their best to return the Halloween items from the cave the best they could.
From then on, almost every night for the rest of their lives there was a brilliant red star twinkling in the sky. It especially shined bright on Halloween.
