Kay's habit of saying "not as far as I know" makes trouble for her. |
As Far As I Know Kay and Jay drove along a one-way single-lane road. Jay asked, "Will we get home in time?" Kay answered, "Not as far as I know". As Kay drove toward the intersection with the highway, she carefully looked ahead for potential traffic problems. She stopped at the red traffic light at the intersection. It surprised her that there were no other cars at the intersection. As the green light appeared, she made a wide right-hand turn into the left lane of the one-way two-lane highway. Two minutes later, a Police siren sounded behind her. Kay presumed the police were after someone else. She had done everything correctly. Then the police car was in the right-hand lane next to her. The driver had rolled down his window, pointed to her, and motioned her to pull over while yelling, "Pull over. Stop!" Kay slowed down to let the Police car pass her, then pulled over to stop on the right-hand side of the highway. She turned off the engine, rolled down the window, and waited for the policeman to come. While they waited, Jay asked her, "Did you do something wrong?" Kay answered, "Not as far as I know". The Policeman now stood at her window. "Do you have any drugs in your car?" Kay answered, "Not as far as I know". Her answer amused the Policeman. "Not as far as you know?" Kay confirmed her answer. The Policeman paused and called for backup. "Hey, we have a live one here. She pretends that she knows nothing about the drugs in her car." |
