Rebellion Against Time

“Where is Baby 2025? It’s almost his time,” Father Time announced anxiously to his minions.

“Father, 2024 is still hanging around!” whispered one.

“What? He must make way; he must fade into Time for the New Year!”

“He absolutely refuses to do so! He claims he’s earned a retirement package and Baby 2025 does not deserve his essence.”

“In order to be, 2025 needs 2024’s essential essence. Does he not understand that he must sacrifice so the New Year can come?”

“He says he understands all that but refuses to go backward in time. Claims he had enough of being a baby when he was the new 2024.”

“Nonsense! Bring him in here!”

2024 staggered into Father Time’s presence, the worst for celebration.

“Happy New Year!” he bellowed.

“Who let the old guy near the joy juice?” Father Time said accusingly.

His minions all denied any part of it.

“We have no time to waste getting him in to shape for taking his essence. It must be done now!”

In seconds, his essence was removed and shaped into Baby 2025. Fortunately, the little one only looked milk drunk, so the world was no wiser. As he was sent upstairs to become the newest year, Father Time took the powder that was left from 2024 and added it to his giant hourglass right through the glass itself as was traditional.

“I’m always glad to have that over,” he said as he patted his glass affectionately.

Alerting his minions that he was exhausted, Father Time fell into a refreshingly long nap.

“Poor Father Time, he just can’t take New Year’s Eve celebrations anymore!”

“But we love ‘em!”

The minions roared and raced off, leaving Big Boss the head of their group, to look after both Time and their father.
