Part 3 of trapper Jack and the legend of the ogopogo |
Cole started the RV up, and put it into gear and once again he was all business “Alright ladies, next stop Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park.” They pulled out onto the road with the Jeep and newly acquired boat following them. Thirty minutes later Cole's mouth dropped open as they pulled off the road into the park only to see every camp spot as far as the eye could see taken. “What the....Kenzie tell me you reserved a spot” “Yeah, we should be good, unless someone is squatting in our spot. When the gang finally found their spot they were relieved to find it empty. Cole and Jackson hopped out and plugged Nina into the electrical outlet to charge her batteries just in case they had a bad case of overcast weather, and the solar panels on top were unable to get enough sunlight. Jackson tried to hook up the water, but he was struggling getting the hose threaded, and Maddie climbed out and helped him. “See, you didn't even have to ask,” she said proving her point. “Yeah yeah, thanks sissy.” “Ok everything is all hooked up, Nina, what is the communication range between you and the Jeep?” “Approximately ten miles, I do not have communication with the boat though.” No worries I have a portable comm set I'll take with me that will sync with the Jeep's communication system allowing us to corroborate. It doesn't have as much range as the Jeep but it should give us 5 miles or so from the Jeep as long as the battery lasts. Nina please utilize the database I created of the Ogopogo sightings and cross reference it with Maddie's map of the possible eco-systems the Ogopogo could live in, and send a map to my phone. “ “There a five major points of interest Cole, with 10 lesser correlations. I've marked them on the map which you should be receiving about now.” Beep-Beep Cole's phone sounded the receipt of the message from Nina. “Thanks Nina, hmmmm looks good. Ahhh there we are, ok so there's a dock down there.” Cole said thoughtfully as he figured out the orientation of the map. “It looks like we can check out a couple of the sights before lunch. Climb in the Jeep guys let's go have a look around.” motioning the siblings to join him as he climbed in the drivers seat. “Shotgun!” Kenzie yelled jumping in the front. “I'll get Jack's seat.” Maddie volunteered, and she disappeared for a minute inside the RV and returned with his seat which she then put behind the drivers seat. “Get in Jack, buckle up.” Minutes later they were bouncing down a gravel road pulling up to the dock. Cole backed the boat into the water, released the hitch and the boat drifted loose. Kenzie guided it to the edge of the dock. Jack, Maddie, and Kenzie clambered in. Lifted the seats to find the life vests, and put them on while Cole parked the Jeep, and then climbed in himself donned his vest and pulled the boat slowly away from the dock. “Well we're hear to work but that don't mean we can't have a little fun while we're at it.” Cole exclaimed as he pushed the throttle forward. Shortly they were screaming off to the first location on the map, laughing and having a good time their bodies jumping into the air when they hit a wave head-on, and hanging on for dear life. “Hmmm ok this near the first spot.” Cole said slowing the boat down and consulting his phone. “This is just out in the middle of the water, hmmmm...Nina can you read me?” “Yes Cole, I read you.” “Looking at this map it looks like a lot of these spots kind of form a rough line.” “Yes Cole with a few degrees variance, they do line up pretty well.” “If you were to take the data, and extrapolate a line through the spots, where would the line hit the coast?” “I've sent you the coordinates Cole you should have them now.” “Ahhhh there it is. Thanks Nina. Let's check it out you guys.” Cole turned the speedboat and push the throttle forward again, and they speed off toward the blip on his map. In the distance they could see cliff walls thirty feet high, and what looked like little lemmings jumping into the water. As they got closer the lemmings turned out to be high school kids cannon balling into the water below.” “Hmmmm, there's no way an Ogopogo would be hanging around here with so much noise.” Cole commented. Just as he was about to pull away and look elsewhere, screaming from the water arrested his attention. He turned his head just in time to see a young man get sucked into a whirlpool that hadn't been there a moment before. Just as suddenly as the whirlpool appeared it, disappeared revealing three monstrous humps glistening on the surface. “Holy, hold on guys” Cole steered the boat toward the humps, but they just slipped below the surface as he pulled alongside it. “Dang it!” Cole exclaimed slapping the side of the sonar display. “It was too quick I couldn't see where it went. This thing needs a major upgrade. Nina?” “Yes, Cole?” “Call 911, or whatever the Canadians use and tell them a cliff diver just got sucked underwater.” “My Goodness! I'll tell them to meet you at the dock.” |
