trying Lousiana Gumbo For the First Time

Back in 1995
My wife and I drove
From San Antonio, Texas
To DC via the Deep South.

She had been serving
As a company commander
At Ft. Sam Houston.

She would join me
To work at the Pentagon
While I worked
At the State Department.

We took our time
Driving through the Deep South
First time for both of us.
To visit New Orleans.

We had a blast
Extended our stay
By one day.

We went on a riverboat
Casino Cruise
And won five hundred dollars.

We tried all
The New Orleans things.
Had a drink on Bourbon Street
While listening to live jazz.

Had chicory-flavored coffee
And baguettes for breakfast
At Café Du Monde.

And tried gumbo for dinner
And po' boy sandwiches
For lunch.

She did not particularly
care for Gumbo,
The okra was a bit too slimy.
But I enjoyed it
And had it again.
