BSF Adult Lesson 20 The Bowl Judgements Revelation 15-16
a
Lesson 20 Questions

First Day: Read Lesson 19 Notes.

The notes and lecture fortify the truth of the passage for understanding and application to daily life.

1. What thoughts from the lecture helped you grasp the gravity of God’s judgment of rebellion?

2. How did the notes give you greater appreciation for the Lord’s redemption of His people?

Second Day: Read Revelation 15:1-4.

John witnessed heavenly worship.

3. Describe what John saw and heard in verses 1-3.

15 I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. 2 And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God

4. Using your own words or other Scripture references, state truths about God from each of the five sentences in the song of Moses and of the Lamb.

1) “Great and amazing are your deeds.” In Job 38-39, God says He laid the foundation of the earth, commanded the morning, and bound the Pleiades, as no man could do.

2)”Just and true are Your ways.” Isaiah 30:18 God Is justice, Isaiah 61:8, loves justice and repeatedly calls on us to be just. Similarly, God Is truth and all He does Is true. He is our example, revealing Himself as true, just, and righteous, and blessing us when we practice these things, and wait on Him to see His work.

3)”Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name?” Fear is necessary thing to attempt to recognize the width and height depth and grandeur of God. We are overwhelmed and can only fall at His feet and give Him glory.

4)”For You alone are holy.Isaiah 57:15

English Standard Version
15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
God is the only holy one, and through Him, we can be made Holy.

1) “All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Both Isaiah 2:2 and Micah 4:1-2 state” It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. This occurs once Jesus returns. These people in those nations will have lived through the tribulation and seen the great evil and the Lamb of God overcoming it all. Those people will have seen His righteousness, and be compelled to go.

5. When you think of all God is, has done, and will do, how will you praise Him today?

I will praise Him for the written words of His scriptures, and the promises contained in them. I will also thank and praise Him for Jesus being the source of my salvation.

Third Day: Read Revelation 15:5-8.

John saw the bowl judgments being prepared.

6 . What did John see as he looked to heaven?

5 After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tent[a] of witness in heaven was opened, 6 and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. 7 And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, 8 and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

7. Read Exodus 40:34-35; 2 Chronicles 5:13-14; and Isaiah 6:1-4. What do these passages and Revelation 15:5-8 say about God’s presence?

His glory is accompanied by smoke and all around Him is praise. No human may enter the temple when God’s glory is present. In the exodus, the Israelites were accompanied by a pillar of smoke by day. He glory of the Lord protected and led His people. That’s why Moses and the others moved on when the cloud lifted—God was showing them the way.

8. What specific confidence, comfort, or help do you receive from God, who “lives for ever and ever” and in the presence of His people today?

I know Jesus lives and i find my hope and security in Him. H3 is my redeemer and through Him i have salvation and eternity.

Fourth Day: Read Revelation 16:1-14.

The bowl judgments are dispensed.

9a. How do each of the first six bowl judgments compare with God’s acts described in the accompanying verses listed below?

First bowl (Exodus 9:8-11) Moses and Aaron brought about the plague of boils. That was a judgment because of Pharoah’s hard heart. The peopl3 with the mark o& the beast will also suffer because of their allegiance to the beast. In both Exodus an$ Revelation, the boils are part of a judgment against false gods.

Second bowl (Exodus 7:14-25; Revelation 8:8-9)

Well, all three instances are judgments. Exodus 7 and Revelation 8 describe the results o& th3 judgment—Fish dead and stinking, bodies of water turns to blood, the water is undrinkable, a third of the ships were lost.

Third bowl (Revelation 8:10-11)

The fresh water was struck with blood. Revelation 8 says the water was bitter and many died from drinking it. In Revelation 16, the angel of the waters declared the bloody water as a result of the many murders of God’s prophets. In their bitterness, God’s people killed His prophets, and now are reaping the judgment of bitter, deadly water.

Fourth bowl (Deuteronomy 28:22; 2 Peter 3:7)

Peter predicted the brutal, destructive heat would be a judgment for the last days. In Exodus, it was a curse for disobedience to the Lord, and would continue until the afflicted ones died. Thus curs3 remains on God’s chosen people today.

Fifth bowl (Exodus 10:21-23)

The land was plunged into darkness. In Exodus, the darkness was a tangible thing, so thick people could not see one another or move. In Revelation, it states people chewed their tongues and cursed God, but did not repent. Kind of Job in reverse.

Sixth bowl (Exodus 8:1-15; 14:21-27)

In Egypt, and later in the law handed down to Moses, frogs are unclean. In Egypt, the frogs were thick on the ground, and invaded every building, room, and even the kneading bowls. They went everywhere. The three spirits in Revelation 16 come from the mouths of the dragon, beast, and false prophet, all of whom were unclean, and go throughout the earth to all the kings, showing signs and gathering them into one army to fight against the Lord. In Revelation 16, the water is dried up to provide who can create and destroy a way for the kings of the east. In Exodus 14, Gods divides the water for His peopl3 t9 pass through on dry land.

b.What do these judgments say about God’s power and His sovereignty over creation?

Only God Is omnipotent, the only one who can create and destroy His works. Any other efforts fail; we can only do what God allows. We can damage His creation, but only God is able to destroy it.

10. a. How is the response of the beast’s followers like Pharaoh’s response to Moses?

Pharaoh, and through him, his people, rejected and disobeyed God. They refused t9 glorify God. The people suffering the bowl judgments cursed God and refused to repent and glorify God.

b. Have you ever responded to God like this? What was the result of your response?

11.How does the truth of these judgments affect or change your sharing of the gospel with others?

It increases my urgency to reach people.

Fifth Day: Read Revelation 16:15-21.

The seventh angel poured out the seventh bowl judgment.

12. a Who spoke in verse 15? (See also Luke 12:39-40 and 2 Peter 3:10.)

Jesus, the Son of Man.

b.Describe this final judgment, which was preceded by the words, “It is done!”

” 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings,[c] peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds[d] each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

c What is the most severe destruction you have experienced or heard about in your nation or the world? What does it mean that the destruction in this chapter will exceed anything ever known?

The Indonesian earthquake and tsunami measured 9.2, killed 230,000 people, and the tsunami wave traveled all the way across the Indian Ocean to strike Kenya. The upcoming destruction will result in the earth being unrecoverable. Water and food will be tainted, the air full of toxins, and the land poisoned. There will be little shelter. Clothes and shoes will wear out, but not be replaced. People will be exposed to the elements. The people will live in fear, always wondering if they are safe. Despair will abound, and people will want to die to escape.

13. a Why should you “stay awake”? (See Matthew 24:43-44; Mark 13:32-37; 2 Peter 3:10.)

Because Jesus is returning, but we don’t know when.

b. What does it mean to “remain clothed”? (See Isaiah 61:10; Romans 13:11-14; Galatians 3:26-27.)

The clothing is not physical, but represents the new life we have in Jesus. We are to display Christ in our lives, casting off those things not of Christ.

14. Considering these terrible coming judgments, how might you explain the compatibility of God’s love and wrath? (See also 2 Peter 3:9.)

God loves us and wants us to repent and turn to Him. The judgments display God’s wrath, but also leave the opportunity to repent and turn to Him. He isn’t in a hurry. He wants as many as can to come to Him.

Sixth Day: Review Revelation 15–16.

God’s justice brings Him glory and deserves our praise.

15. How has God moved in you regarding His promised judgment and people’s refusal to believe?

It pains me to know after every opportunity people have to repent and turn our gracious God, they still reject and curse Him.
