“Well, you two behave and take care of the place for me while I’m gone. I’ll be back after 9 pm.,” the man said.

Squawkers the parrot whistled and said: “Aye, aye Captain!” The Devil said nothing, for he seemed to be asleep.

Everything went fine until 8 pm. The window that the parrot’s perch was facing began moving upward. Squawkers watch it be raised by gloved hands. The radio that rested on the sill below his perch turned itself on.

“All right, stop right where you are! Hands on your head!”

The bird watched as the confused burglar followed what the radio said as he laughed maniacally. When robber didn’t see any boys in blue, he continued over the sill into the house, kicking the radio until it was silent.

Squawkers did his impression of a siren.

“The Devil is watching you!” the bird said.

“Quiet, you feather duster!” a voice whispered harshly. The thief reached for the bird.

Suddenly a hard rubber ball came flying out of the darkness to hit the perp where it hurt the most.

“Ow!” he screamed as he doubled over.

“Here come the Devil,” the bird said as a large black dog landed on the man.

A key in the lock stopped all the action.

“Well, boys, did you behave yourself?” asked their master as he flicked on the lights. What he saw made him dial 911.

After the police arrived and took away the disabled thief, the man gave mango and avocado to the bird and steak to the dog in appreciation.

“Guess I don’t need that security system I was thinking of buying,” he said as he settled in with the dog at his feet and the bird on his shoulder to watch “Animal Antics” on the tube.
