Three boys following the rails. |
The Railroad Adventure © By Artemis Quill 3/15/2025 “No problems, overwhelmed with blessings” Poe, Huck, and Finn ambled along the abandoned railroad track, the sun dipping low. Laughter echoed as they dared each other to enter the dark tunnel. Unbeknownst to them, a train barreled down the line. The ground trembled, a low rumble approached. Suddenly, realization struck. With hearts racing, they spotted a small crevice in the tunnel wall. Desperation fueled their leap to safety, just in time. Huddled in the darkness, the train thundered past, its deafening roar fading into the distance. The boys exchanged wide-eyed glances, the gravity of their close call sinking in. "That was too close," Poe whispered, voice trembling. "Let's never do that again," Huck agreed, nodding emphatically. Finn peered down the tunnel, where the light at the end seemed a little brighter now. "Let's stick to daylight adventures from now on," he suggested. As they walked home, the enormity of their escape sank in. They chatted about their fortune, grateful for the chance to learn from their mistake without dire consequences. "Can you imagine if we hadn't noticed the train?" Poe wondered aloud. "We're lucky to be alive," Huck agreed, a solemn tone in his voice. Finn nodded, "This could have ended very differently. Let's make a pact: no more reckless adventures." Agreed, they clasped hands, their bond stronger than ever. As they disappeared into the evening light, they knew they'd always have each other's backs. |
