A king's dilemma

I gazed down upon the world below, me the monarch up high in my castle
To see people struggling to live, some are even enslaved and sold like cattle
How sad, to have freedom yet be robbed of it without even the chance to battle

I gazed down again, me who has all the wealth to be desired
To see people with hope in their eyes, working earnestly despite being tired
I wonder if that would be enough to live, or will life soon decide for them to be fired

I gazed down yet again, this time to a closer level
To see people with enough to live, yet craving wealth with greed surpassing the devil
What use in wanting a power, when the motive is clearly fuelled by nothing but evil?

I raised my head, having enough of those sights, and returned to my reality
To my kingdom, to my castle, to my life full of luxury
Where people praise my justice, even though they've never seen a trial
Where people speak of my virtues, even though they've seen few, while keeping my many vices in denial
My kingdom where EVEN love...is a game of fame and gold
A game in which honour is a sweet lie, and "feelings" are bought and sold
I'm the one with the most freedom: yet so many things in my life are wrapped in chains
I'm the one with the most wealth: yet most of what i spend was gone in vain
Is anything around me real? does my crown cast a spell on those around?
Does it give me authority, in exchange for a life in which honesty can never be found?
Perhaps this is the burden of a ruler, a curse that by time turns his soul so cold
With the only truths in his life being agony, betrayal and the blood spilt by his sword
