For We Can Only Be Friends

A bond I ache to forge with you,
Exploring worlds, both old and new.
In stolen glances, our souls entwine,
Though my heart beats for another’s shrine.

For now, let’s claim this fleeting hour,
Where want eclipses reason’s power.
Past and future, we’ll cast aside
In this brief blaze, let passion reside.

Our whispers spin a silken spell,
A fragile refuge where hearts rebel.
No vows of always, no chains of then
Just the pulse of now, and it's sweet Amen.

But time, unkind, will draw the line:
My love is tethered, your heart not mine.
So let us cling to this secret plot
For we can only be friends
Who dares to want what we cannot.
