Act 4 [Gantan 's Summer Vacation] It's midsummer, with the cicadas' loud chirps and the blaring sun. Summer in Kyoto is famous for its humid weather, which is unique to basins. Gantan is in the fifth grade and is on a little league baseball team. The coach is Gen-san.He loves baseball and is a big fan of the Hanshin Tigers. I call my grandpa Ken-san Gen-san, so everyone calls him that. My house was renovated a few years ago by my grandpa Jin-san and Gen-san, and we've become friends as a family. Gantan's mother is Tora-san. Like Gen-san, he's a Tigers fan, and he goes to cheer on the Gantan game on Sunday with his tea picking friends who work part-time. Gantan is the catcher and captain. He often bounces the ball back, so the umpire says,"If I don't catch it properly, the ball will hit me and hurt me.""Sorry!"I'm not very good on Gantan. Today, everyone came to the field on the banks of the Kizu River to cheer on the Gantan game. Gantan's team is a weak team, especially in terms of pitching.They have never won yet.Gen-san loves the Hanshin Tigers, and Hanshin has a lot of good left-handed pitchers. There aren't many batters who can hit home runs like the Giants, but he always says that baseball is all about the pitcher. Tora-san, who is aged bunny years old, admires bunny girls and requested to wear a bunny girl style but was turned down, so the cheer squad, made up of fellow tea pickers, is made up of the strongest Tea Picking Bunny Girls, with an average age of 45, who wear tea picking costumes with navy blue ikat patterns, red sashes and neck scarves, white hand towels on their heads, and drums instead of baskets, threatening the opposing team with the same intensity as cheering at Koshien Stadium. "Waah, Don Don♪ Go Don Don♪"The Tea Picking Bunny Girls start their loud cheering with taiko drums. "Ah..." Makoto, batting first, strikes out looking."Waah, Don Don♪ Go Don Don♪ Ah..."Takeshi, batting second, strikes out swinging after Suguru's fastball hits his catcher's mitt. Rintaro, batting third, is the eldest son of the tea shop owner who sells the matcha sweets and tea dumplings that Hapi and Moni love. "Wow, Don Don♪ Go Don Don♪ Ah~Ah..." The team's cheering was no use, and in the bottom of the first inning, Ujitawara Happy New Years started the losing pattern with three strikeouts. In the top of the second inning, a ball was thrown to first base with no outs, and the batter was pitcher Suguru. The softball he hit went over the head of center fielder Makoto, and Suguru went around third base for a running home run. Two more runs were added, making it 7-0. After that, despite letting runners on base, they somehow managed to get out of the pinch and get three outs."Wow, Don Don♪ Go Don Don♪"The noisy cheering by the Tea Picking Bunny Girls started again. In the bottom of the second inning, No. 4, Gantan, swung her bat at Suguru's fastball, and her timing was perfect. The ball grazed the bat and changed trajectory, and the catcher of course couldn't catch it, and it hit the umpire's right foot. The umpire's uncle stumbled and was on his knees on the ground. Everyone except the coach came out of the benches. Home base was a scuffle. The Tea Picking Bunny Girls beat the drums, saying, "Waah, bang bang♪ Go bang bang♪" to encourage the fight. The umpire said,"Game over, forfeit!"Gen-san, "...."Gantan and his team had no losses."What an idiot."That evening, the baseball game was changed to a barbecue party for a large group of people, including the Tea Picking Bunny Girls. Gen-san was being removed from the team as manager for the next game, and was sipping on his shochu soda while complaining. Gantan and his team were overjoyed that they had no losses, so it was practically a win. When will Ujitawara Happy New Years win?I said. "As long as Gantan is captain, we'll never get a win." I often play catch with Gantan in the garden. Gantan said."Hapi, you're throwing like a guy!""What do you mean?""Girls usually don't use their bodies, they just throw with their arms from the front!""I'm just throwing normally!""So you're turning to the side and swinging your arms properly, it's a man's throw.""I don't really get it though!"Crack! act4【元旦の夏休み】

ミーンミーン、セミの声がうるさく太陽ギラギラの暑い真夏です。

京都の夏は盆地特有の蒸し暑い夏で有名。

元旦は5年生になって少年野球チームに入っています。

監督は元さん。野球が大好きで阪神タイガースの大ファン。

毎週日曜日は試合をやっていますが今迄勝った事がなく、大量点でコールド負けした日はついつい愚痴をこぼしながら晩酌で焼酎のソーダ割りをちびちび飲むのが癖。

おじいちゃんのケンさんはゲンさんと呼んでいるので皆んな同じ様に呼んでいます。

私のお家も数年前に改築でおじいさんの仁さんと元さんに建ててもらい家族ぐるみのお付き合いをしていています。

元旦のお母ちゃんの寅さん。

元さんと同じタイガースのファンで日曜日の元旦の試合には、

パートで働く茶摘み仲間と応援に行くみたいです。

元旦はキャッチャーでキャプテンです。

ボールをよく後ろにはじくので審判のおじさんが

「僕、ちゃんと捕球せんとボールが、わしに当たって痛いわ」

「すっスミマセン!」

元旦はあまり上手くない。

今日は試合の応援に皆んなで木津川の河川敷のグランドに来ました。

元旦のチームは弱小チームで特に投手力不足だ。未だに勝った事がない。

阪神タイガースが大好きな元さんは阪神には左のいいピッチャーがいっぱいいる。

ジャイアンツみたいなホームランを打てるバッターはあまりいてないが野球はピッチャーやといつも言ってる。

特にアチラコチラのチームから4番バッターを取って来る巨人が特に大嫌いで読売4番バッターズっといつも言っている。

チーム名は宇治田原ハッピーニューイヤーズ。

今日の相手は城陽アルプラザーズ、速球投手のスグル要する強豪チームだ。

こっちはシングルヒットしか打てないピョッコンバッターばかりの集まり。

相手のチームには、未だに勝てなくて相手がなめてかかっている。

でも応援では負けていない、なんせ、コチラにはお茶摘みバニーガールズと言うチアガールがいて、元さんの奥さんの寅さんがチアリーダー。

ウサギ歳の寅さんは、バニーガールにあこがれてバニーガールのスタイルを希望したが却下され、お茶摘み仲間がメンバーの応援団は紺色の絣柄、 茶摘み衣装を着て赤いたすきや首掛け、白い手拭いを頭にかぶってカゴの代わりの太鼓を持って甲子園の応援並みに相手チームを脅かす最強平均年齢45歳の茶摘みバニーガールズだ。

１回の表相手の３連打で1点を失いまだノーアウト１，３塁のピンチ。

４番バッターが打ったセンターフライをレフトを守る、たけしが「オーライ、オーライ」と言った。

センターを守る誠がたけしを見てイージーフライを落としてしまいさらに2点追加。

「たけしなんでオーライって言ったの」

「だってお父ちゃん仕事場でいつもオーライって言ってるから、ごめん!」

たけしのお父さんは宇治田原を走るコミニュティーバスの運行管理者だった。

その後何とか後続を抑えて３アウトチェンジ。

しかし5点を取られた。

1回裏宇治田原ハピーニューイヤーズの攻撃。

「ワー、ドンドン♪行けードンドン♪」

太鼓をたたく、茶摘みバニーガールズによるやかましい応援が始まった。

「あ~あ...」

１番の誠は、見逃しの三振。

「ワー、ドンドン♪行けードンドン♪あ~あ...」

2番のたけし、スグルの速球がキャッチャーミットに入ってからバットを振って空振りの三振。

3番の凛太郎、ハピとモニが好きな抹茶スイーツや茶団子を売っているお茶屋さんの長男。

「ワー、ドンドン♪行けードンドン♪あ~あ...」

チームは応援のかいもなく、１回裏宇治田原ハッピーニューイヤーズは、３三振の負けパターンスタート。

２回表ファーボールでランナー無死1塁、バッターはピッチャーのスグル。

ポーンと打った軟式ボールはセンターを守る誠の頭を越して、スグルは３塁を回りランニングホームラン。

2点が追加されてしまい7対0　その後ランナーを出しながらも何とかピンチを切り抜け3アウトチェンジ。

「ワー、ドンドン♪行けードンドン♪」

茶摘みバニーガールズによるやかましいだけの応援が再び始まった。

２回裏4番の元旦、スグルの速球にバットを振る、タイミングはバッチリだ。ボールはバットにかすって軌道を変えキャッチャーはもちろん捕れずにボールは審判の右足に直撃。

審判のおじさんは、もんどり打って膝を地面に着いている。

元旦は捕球でも打球でも審判殺しの元旦と言う噂が少年野球協会に広まった。

２球目、元旦が、打った球はボテボテの３塁ゴロ、全速力の元旦は頭からスライディングしてセーフ。ハピが言った。

「琵琶湖バレイのスライディングはこれの練習やったんやな」しかし後続続かず３アウトチェンジ。

元さんは元旦に言った。

「キャッチャーの野村っていう名捕手がおってなバッターボックスの選手によくつぶやくんや!相手の弱点をつぶやいて打ち損ねを狙うんや!」

「わかった!」

3回の表、相変わらず２アウト満塁の大ピンチ。元旦は監督の言葉を思い出した。

バッターは又6年生のピッチャーのスグルだった。元旦はつぶやいた。

「お前の母ちゃんデベソ!」

「何やて!」

スグルがカッとなって元旦に殴りかかった。元旦も負けずに蹴り返した。

お互いのベンチから監督を除く皆んなが飛び出して来た。

ホームベースは取っ組み合いのドタバタ劇だ。

それを煽るように

「ワー、ドンドン♪行けードンドン♪」

太鼓を叩く茶摘みバニーガールズ。

審判のおじちゃんが言った。

「試合終了　没収試合!」

元さん

「.....」

元旦達の負けは無くなった。

「ほんまにアホや」

その日の夕方、野球の試合は、茶摘みバニーガールズを含めた大人数のバーベキュウ大会に変更された。

元さんは次の試合の監督を降ろされて愚痴を言いながらチビチビ焼酎のソーダ割りを飲んでいる。

元旦達は負けが無くなったので勝ちに等しいと大はしゃぎだ。宇治田原ハッピーニューイヤーズはいつ勝てるのだろうか?私は言った。

「元旦がキャプテンでいる内は一生（1勝）無理や」

私は庭で元旦とよくキャッチボールをする。元旦が言った。

「ハピ、男みたいな投げ方やな!」

「エッどういうこと?」

「女の子って、普通身体使わんと正面から腕だけで投げるやろ!」

「ウチ、普通に投げてるだけやよ!」

「だから、ちゃんと横向いて腕も振れてるやん、男投げや」

「なんかようわからへんけど!」

バシッ!心地良い音が元旦のキャッチャーミットに響く。

「なあ、ハピ。ウチのチームに入らへんか?」

「なんでやねん!」

「ピッチャー行けるで、球児より速いやん!」

「球児の球遅すぎるなあ～」

「そやねん、ハエも止まるしミット迄届かへん。」

「なあ～入ってや」

「ウチ忙しいねん。やる事いっぱいあるねん。」

元旦はハピの顔を見るたびスカウトした。
