Rain will not stop me. |
“It’s going to rain.” She said, matter of fact. He looked up at the sky. “Yeah, maybe.” “That was not part of the plan!” She cried out. “It’s going to slow us down!” Hector rolled his eyes. “Maybe I should have checked the weather for you.” Katia stared at him with annoyance. “Maybe you should have!” Katia snapped, feeling defeated. She wanted everything to be perfect! Hector could not help but chuckle. Katia was about to protest when she had to remind herself, she needed him. “All I am saying is, now it’s going to take awhile to dig this hole.” “It hasn’t started raining, yet.” “But what if-“ “Why don’t we just start now.” Hector interjected as he reached for the shovels. He handed her one. “Shall we?” Katia sighed trying to calm her nerves. They worked in silence. “I don’t know what I would have done if you would have not helped me. I appreciate it,” Katia said. She could sense his smile as they continued to work in silence. By the time the hole was dug up and Hector placed the trunk of the tree inside the hole, a thunderclap erupted followed by lightening. “Right on time!” Katia said with a smile as Hector finished up closing the hole. They both stepped back to admire the tree. Tears swelled up in her eyes as Hector embraced her. “It’s beautiful. Your Mom will continue to live on,” Hector said. She crumbled in his arms and cried. “Thank you. She’s beautiful!” Katia whispered. Hector looked into her eyes, smiled and said: “I would do anything for you and your mom. May she rest in peace.” They continued to hold each other as the first drops of rain began to fall. Word count: 291 |
