Love and happiness when you hear, read, or write those words, your mind conjures ecstasy and the euphoria of joy. But when you really think about them, they often feel like masks for pain.
Love demands sacrifice the offering of a piece of yourself to a stranger, hoping they won’t burn what you’ve given. When you give love to a person, an object, an idea, or a job, it can be even worse because deep down, you know that at any moment, everything you sacrificed could be lost. So how can love truly be a good thing?
And happiness we picture it as rainbows and sunshine. But is it really? If we’ve never felt pain or walked through darkness, can we ever truly know what happiness is? Doesn’t happiness require suffering to be understood?
My mind keeps wandering to the truth behind what we call “goodness” in the world. Is it real? Or are we just building illusions to keep ourselves moving forward?
