Hour 2 prompt of poetry marathon

Bathing in the mud bath

Not a care in the world

The hippopotamus stretches, enjoying the cool mud

Lazy and sunsoaked

He spots a thing moving, not too close but not too far

Curiousity peaked, he raised his head to get a better look

Some strange box was moving slowly past

The nerve!

This was his spot, the ladies in the group were his too

This thing better stay away

Although it doesn’t look too tasty

How dare they!

The people in the car drove slowly past the enclosure

Marvelling at how cute the hippos looked

Bathing in mud, the kids envious

How they wished they could do the same!

The hippo lowered his head,

A lazy but pointed grumble emanating from him

That should do, he thought

As he rolled to the other side again

Nosy creatures, always staring

He wished they’d leave him in peace to enjoy himself

No matter how tasty the things inside the box looked

If they come closer, well he’d be obliged!

He had to keep up his image

Rolling onto his back sunning himself

The box moved on

He closed his eyes and dreamt of dinner with his ladies
