Bev panics when she loses her phone. 300 words

Incommunicato

“I lost my phone!”

“You better get on the ball and contact important places and people and let them know. When did this happen?” asked Diane.

“This morning, I went to use the one in my kitchen to call Mom and it was gone!”

“How can you lose something that’s attached to the wall? Why do you have that when you have a cell?”

“I just like the extra security. Cell can be low or out of charge, what if it’s an emergency?”

“I get it, but who would take your land line?”

“There was a post it note in the empty space. It said: ‘Get with the times. I have just made this dinosaur extinct.’”

“The nerve. Was the note signed?”

“Just had an acronym: INCOM

“Time to report the theft,”

At the police station, the girls filed a report.

“You ladies aren’t alone. Someone has a bee in their bonnet about non-cell phones. At least 25 people have made the same report, and it isn’t even noon yet.”

“How will you find them?”

“Solid police work and time.”

“Let’s go get you a new landline at Walmart.”

“Yeah, I hear the phone company doesn’t sell landlines anymore.

“Let’s go then,” Bev sighed.

In the store, the two friends were trying to pick the best new phone. There were so few. While they were browsing, Bev’s cell phone rang.

“Did you like my little surprise?” said a strange voice.

“No, bring me back my landline!”

“It’s gone to the landfill. Why, would you want that old thing?”

“This is him, officer, trace the call!” Bev said. At once, the thief hung up.

“That was a great trick. But you should change your cell number too.”

“I’ll get a burner phone until this is all over! Then change it.”
