Two guys have a job to do. Flash Fiction under 300 words. |
ONE SUNNY DAY The day was hot and the sun relentless. Rick leaned back and was almost asleep when cold water hit him in the face. It was so cold it chilled him to the bone, jumping he nearly hit the pool. Rick regained his composure and grabbed Phil who had tossed. He carried him to the pool and dropped him. He went under. Phil broke the surface and climbed out of the pool. "I didn't think you could move that fast," he laughed. "Are we going to drain this pool?" Rick walked to the pump, backwashed it and set it to drain. When finished, he moved to the deck and took a seat in the rocker. Phil chose the Chaise Lounge on the lanai. The trees blew in the wind moving in a wild dance while the hardscape buildings held steady. This beachside paradise was a good place to spend the day. "Phil," Rick called, when the pool is empty, turn the water on," Phil waved in response. Rick looked at his watch and smiled, "It looks like we'll be out of here by three. An early day," he yelled. Rick fell asleep in the rocker. He woke with a start. A glance at his watch and he saw it was three. He realized the sun had burnt him up. "Phil, is the water in?" Rick saw Phil wave. That was all he needed. He jumped from his chair and ran toward the pool. He jumped, a belly flop in mind. He opened his eyes a few seconds before he hit. No water. Rick hit the bottom hard. Phil saw what was happening and tried to stop him. Rick slowly stood, "Well, Let's try it again." "My bad", Phill said, "I'm sorry." |
