Courageous teen attempts getting a date for the prom. |
Prom Date (The prelude) By Larry Lynch
"May I walk you home from school?" She replied, "Don't be a fool!" "Sorry, thought I'd take a chance..." "Well, I might go with you to the dance!"
Pardon me, what did I hear? I must inquire to make it clear. "Did you say you liked to dance?" "Indeed," said she, "But not romance!"
But I'd said nothing of the kind, (I wonder if she read my mind?) Girls are like that, mama says, Saying no but meaning yes.
"The prom is coming up, you know," "I'd like to take you if you'll go." "I'll ask my father," she replied, "He'll want to meet you, then decide."
"He's home today, could meet you there," "He might object to your long hair!" "If he likes you," she reminisced, "You might avoid his suspect list."
"Then today is good," I persevered (I'm lucky I don't have a beard!) "Now, I don't want to seem a fool," "But may I walk you home from school?"
