The King of Halloween

Free verse poem for the 13 Poetic Days of Halloween Contest 2025

Jack Skellington is the King of Halloweentown
Sally became his queen, wears a pointy crown

It was quite a journey for sure
all that they had to endure

When Jack discovered Christmastown
it turned everything upside-down
he wanted to be a hero
to the townsfolk and dog Zero

Sandy Claws wants to deliver presents
but then there's a crazy turn of events

When Jack sends Barrel, Lock and Shock
some bad dudes on the block

To kidnap poor Sandy Claws
for his nefarious cause

Oogie Boogie, a terrible shrew
wanted to put poor Sandy in his stew

But never fear, all turns out well
and Jack saves Sandy from an awful hell

Jack learns some lessons here
he is wiser now
and he's discovered many things
such as
don't take what's not yours
and love always cures
whatever is harmed or broken
be careful of any words spoken

Thankfully, a happy ending
though wrongs needed mending
and many were put to the test

It was a lot to experience
but Sandy is now free
and Jack asks Sally, "Will you marry me?"

Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween
is now happy to do what he does best
forevermore, with Sally by his side.
He wanted two worlds, and he tried
Now everything can be as it should
In Halloweentown.
