Hiking birthday angel

I was having fits with my laptop today. I received it as a gift about 8 months ago. Adjusting to the frequent whirring of the cooling fan was hard. Short of taking it in or mailing it in to be adjusted further, it is something I have to live with. Today it was not the fan, but it was running like a slug. I am sure my 11 year old grandson or my older one who makes his living in IT could have fixed me right up. I decided I could follow online instructions. It took me awhile, but, now I am galloping like the wind and pretty proud of myself.

This photo was taken by little sister, Bev, who turned 68 today. She is an avid hiker and has a robust portfolio of photos. She currently volunteers as a "Trail Angel" on the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon. The PCT was the trail featured in the 2014 film "Wild". The movie tells the true story of Cheryl Strayed who walked the PCT alone when she was 27 years old. I highly recommend the movie.

Trail Angels provide free transportation for hikers as they move from one part of the trail to another. They may need to go for supplies, or return to a prior place to retrieve something. There are as many reasons as there are hikers. The angels provide "angel magic" by stocking snacks and drinks at points along the trail. With one of her hiking buddies, she prepare lunches for groups of a dozen or so hikers once a week. The hikers' stories are filled with things they experienced on the trail. There are funny and serious ones. She served a 90 year old hiker a few weeks ago. One couple from the Netherlands did not speak a word of English. Another pair of hikers needed to travel a long distance. I have forgotten the reason, but, she drove them 360 miles that day. Her Honda CR-V just turned over 200K miles. "Good for another one hundred thousand," she told me.

I am going to seek out a second piece to review today then move on to school work.
