The Blog City Prompt Forum prompt for February 17, 2017 is "Did you know Mr. Potato Head was the first toy to be advertised on TV? What's the first toy you can remember being advertised?What kind of media was it advertised? Book, catalog, newspaper, radio, television Did you get it?{

I can remember these plastic boxing robots, I don't even recall their names, from the early 1960's. They were the biggest disappointments a kid could get because on television they beat the crap out of each other but in reality they swung by each other's heads with little or no contact. My brothers and I got one and played with it for five minutes before figuring out it was a colossal joke. I'm sure Mom was pleased as well because at the time they were all the rage and probably cost a small fortune. Mom was the only bread winner so she worked hard to provide for us. Come to think of it they were called "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. They rocked just fine if you want to call whatever they did rocking and as for the socking, about all they did was bump their hands together. On television you saw two prize fighters slugging it out. We expected golden gloves and got golden rip offs!
