On an average day an average guy is plunged into chaos when ‘The Pulse’ is released upon the world. Compared to an electro-magnetic pulse in the book, the virus is sent as a signal to all mobile phones. Anyone that hears it effectively has their brain wiped and is turned into an aggressive, mindless ‘zombie’.

Our protagonist, Clayton Riddell, must find a way to his son before he uses a phone. Thrown together by circumstance, a small band of unlikely friends set out on a journey from Boston to Maine in search of friends, family and hope.

A fan of Stephen Kings, I wasn’t disappointed by ‘Cell’, and don’t think it deserved some of the harsh criticism it has received. The writing is top-notch as usual, and the reader is thrown into the action within the first 10 pages. Not the best King novel, it is similar to the superior ‘The Stand’, but is never the less a good read.

While not as good as the similar end of the world epic 'The Stand', this is still an enjoyable read.
