When we visited Skagway on our trip last September, we didn't get into the Red Onion Saloon either. Very popular place.
JACE - yeah, you've got a ton of tourists swamping it. I'd love to check it out, but that's for another trip where it's not so swamped. I'd love to check the NPS Klondike Museum as well. There was more I wanted see and didn't have enough time.
Just wanted to share a item I recently reviewed and gave an Awardicon to:

The Firelight Honor  (E)
A very moving flag retirement, its remnants lowered into a campfire
#2321529 by foxtale

It was about a Flag Retirement Ceremony conducted by a Boy Scout Troop. It really touched me. #1 When I served in the US Army, I would often lead the raising of the flag and the lowering of the flag on US Army installations overseas in Germany, and nothing stirs the soul like raising (Reveille) or lowing the flag (To the Color) when wearing your uniform.

#2 In 2013, I committed to serving as an Assistant Den Leader for my young son's Pack. (I'm a Boy Mom). That turned into Den Leader, Cubmaster, and eventually Assistant ScoutMaster for his Troop. I've lead many a flag retirement ceremonies for not only Pack 40 but Troop 2. I thought I'd share a couple of "recent" photos of BSA Flag Retirements.

And tomorrow is Flag Day. Very fitting. -- Thank you to the "Stars & Stripes" for your service.

From 2021:

Flag Retirement at a Boy Scout Camp 2021

From 2022:

A Flag Retirement held at Boy Scout Camp 2022.

Here is a great YouTube Video that gives a little a history about "To The Color." I just might have to do a Blog Post on my experiences.

Writer_Mike - lol!! Okay I was gonna get mad at Space Force for a minute. Yeah, I think that's personal preference. You can do the National Anthem, too. Either one is appropriate.
StephBee - one time at a graveside service for a veteran's burial, the CD taps music failed to run.
Thankfully someone knew the words to taps, stepped forward and in a cadenced presentation recited them -
Day is done.... Gone the sun... from the lake, from the hills, from the sky.... All is well, safely rest... God is nigh... They stepped back,
and the honor guard on command fired the volleys.
Powerful. (I learned the words in case that were ever to happen again.)
And it might, the old veterans know there can always be a snafu!
foxtale - Thanks for sharing that. Makes Flag Day extra special. Very inspirational.
If anyone wants to give some of my recent poems a review, you'd make my day!

Congratulations on your new merit badge! Thank you for supporting the Writing.Com community with your inspirations, participation and activities. We sincerely appreciate it! -SMs I had to drop off a return at the UPS store, gas up the car, cash a check at the bank, and buy frames at Target for all the diplomas the boys got! Joey got a nice CTE certificate for Graphic Design so I got him a nice frame. Then I saw the eye doctor. The eyes dropped to 1.25 but it's on the border so she gave me 1.50. I prefer to wear contacts and prescription sunglasses. haha. It's pretty sunny here in So Cal. Got some stuff I needed for my chicken Marsala I'm going to cook for dinner and got the boy McD's for lunch. After that it was Driving Lesson #1 for Joey !! I kept it simple. Reverse, go forward and drive around around the parking lot. Can't for tomorrow. Hopefully he won't be so jerky with the brakes!

Hope you all had a good productive day!! After dinner I'm going to try to work on some blog entries and reviews, time permitting!

Smiles

I enjoyed the read... until I realised that my poems are older than your sons. *Shock*

Alaska is one of 6 states I haven't visited. It's at the top of my list along with Kentucky. Who do I know in either place... hmm...

I'd probably take a ferry. I'm not a "cruiser".

Where in Alaska? Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Fairbanks... maybe Soldotna.
Kåre Enga in Montana - Yikes! But your poems have stood the test of time and I'd say are still relatable to people today. Believe me, ferries are popular up there. I'd love more time in Ketchikan and if I could, I'd buy a summer home in Ketchinkan, but I loved Juneau and Skagway, too. I'd love to see Anchorage.
There's a new Question of the Week at the Honey Pit -- We're rocking out to some of our favorite music! Head on over and share!

To everyone who left me birthday wishes, thank you very much. It was a low key and I had a nice dinner with the boys at BJ's. Tonight I get cake because yesterday we had poozkie. hehe.

Happy belated birthday.

I hope you enjoyed your cake!!
Whoa! I didn't know what a poozkie was... I had to Google. A Pizza-Cookie? WOW! That is what I call a celebration! *Heart* Soooo coooool! You baked it yourself?
Elycia Lee ☮ - BJ's made the cookie. If you ever get a chance to have one, do it. It's wonderful. *Smile*
