Darkness takes over light, night takes over day
Its darkness surrounds its prey
Sneaking up behind to take the day
It’s a fickle thing to try and do
But its dark color makes it look true

The air is so cold and begins to fold
The moon sets a story to be told
Capturing life in its fingers
Nothing any longer lingers

Everything scurries to hide
As the moon brings up its high tide
Nothing is safe from its eye
No matter how hard you try

Silvery hands reach out to touch
And use earth as their crutch
It steals away the light
And builds its own not so bright

Black wings take flight
To take on remaining white
Wings of lace begin to fall
As wings of steel grow tall

The long hold of the black doesn’t last
As the white’s army begins to grow fast
The whites take over and it’s done
As the moon sits, here comes the sun

But not to worry they will tomorrow come
For tonight’s battle hasn’t left the night numb
For now the whites will triumph and be gay
But for the next night they will have nothing more to say
