She never told anyone the truth about her home life
“I can take care of myself.”
That’s what she said.
“I can take care of myself.”
Funny now, how she’s dead.
Her spirit broken,
Forced to her knees.
Nobody heard the shouts.
Nobody heard the screams.

“I can take care of myself.”
That’s what I said.
“I can take care of myself.”
Even if I’m dead.
I kept the secrets,
Lived the lie.
They didn’t see my pain.
They didn't see me die.

“I can take care of myself.”
That’s what you said.
“I can take care of myself.”
But now you’re dead.
I could have stopped it,
But you didn’t say,
I could have stopped it,
But now you’ve gone away.
