2. There Goes Bill!

2. "There Goes Bill!" – You're trapped in a situation not of your doing. How did you end up there, and what can you do to get out of it? Kicking lizards out of chimneys optional. Short story (<1000 words) or poem (<40 lines).

In a Pickle

It’s quite a conundrum. I actually can’t believe how I got into this pickle. Literally a pickle.

One moment I was walking along the street and in the next moment I was swimming in pickle juice, a big vat of pickle juice. Stinky, garlicky, dill-laced pickle juice with giant cucumbers floating in the juice-filled barrel.

Alice in Wonderland

Ordinarily one does not insert oneself into a vat full of pickle juice, so let me tell you this story.

So as I stated, I was walking along the street, minding my own business. When all of a sudden this giant pterodactyl flies down, picks me up. We travel about a mile. I’m screaming the entire time, the pterodactyl is screeching the entire time. Soon we fly over a Renaissance Festival. On the grounds of the festival is a merchant selling dill pickles. He has huge barrels of pickles at his stand.

I punch the flying dino in the belly somehow. Someone on the ground is shooting arrows at the pterodactyl. The dino releases me and flies away. I fall about fifty feet and splash! Right into a barrel of pickles.

Now on the ground, I am hailed as a slayer of dragons. Big strong men in kilts lift me out of the barrel. Dripping pickle juice, I head the daily parade to the castle, where I receive top honors by the King and Queen of the festival.
