So...

I killed the principal of the school, who the kids, if they didn't like her, at least respected her. Burnt to death when the admin block caught fire. The kids want to do something stupid, but the parents stop them. The MC sees the magic close-up this time, but hardly reacts. I think when I redraft he needs to freak out more.

But I finished when I revealed the kids have some unexpected allies in their "do something stupid" plan.

Oh, and the MC thinks he might be in love. Not bad for a 17 year old... Yes, there is a romance through-line in this urban YA fantasy.

The characters are really driving this, and, with one exception, are doing it well.

Oh, had an interesting conversation yesterday. "Young Adult" in Australia seems to mean something different to the USA. In Australia it is for the 16 to 24 year age group. In the USA it seems to be as young as 10 years old, and stops at around 18, 21. 10 to 16 is called "Middle Grade" here; 18 to 24 is called "New Adult" there.

I hate labels.
