In a Jeffrey Pine
I am one of half a million people watching
Big Bear Valley's now-famous raptor pair -
We are collectively addicted to their brood.

Six weeks ago when all the eggs were pipping,
we imagined them impatient in their shells
and proclaimed the first to hatch the winner

Little eaglets oh you had us at hello

And for three days there were three of them
but when the winner failed to last the night,
we all said mom is mourning for her babe

yet she carried on - in flight, with feedings
and this morning, two fine chicks who lived
are celebrating Easter, preening in the sun.
