Broadzilla
Hubby and I have stumbled into that age when vehicles manufactured after we were both born are now considered classics. Wait a darn minute. The car I learned to drive and once flipped on a major highway is now a collector's item? The make and model my brother and I weaved around the speaker poles in a drive-in theatre is considered an antique? The ol' Mom Mobile has been resurrected? To further illustrate my current age I could insert archaic sayings here that would convey my disbelief and dismay. Here I am writing my two-cents worth and Canada discontinued the penny years ago. Its been eons since someone offered me a penny for my thoughts. Am I becoming a curmudgeon? Egads, will I henceforth snap when I am questioned about what I plan on growing this year and reply, "Older and crankier." Sorry, I am still puzzling through the very idea that I am older than a classic car. My not yet senile husband purchased a blast from my past, a 1975 Oldsmobile Regency. The first thing I took note of was the licence plate, BRZA600. Immediately, I christened her, she is after all certain of her pronoun, Broadzilla. At an impressive Amazonian length of nineteen feet seven inches, she is without a doubt a big girl. Some naysayers call her a land yacht. Others have dismissed her as being nothing but a boat anchor. The joke is on them because she definitely floats down the road. Her chuffed new owner/chauffeur tells anyone who will listen that he bought a couple of couches with four wheels attached. It's like sinking into grandma's blue velvet sofa. At the first intersection that Broadzilla glided to she dwarfed the other cars that pulled up in her considerable shadow. Not once did she wobble and for an ol' gal her backside barely swayed. At the moment Broadzilla is seeking somewhere to rest her bones and maintain her gleaming complexion. Tentative requests have been proffered to our son. Could we pay to expand his shed/barn to house the new family dowager? Only a mere twenty feet need be constructed. She'll be no trouble at all. She passed her health check-up or as those in the car universe refer to it, her safety. Her bones are strong. She has yet to wheeze or sputter. So far, her wires are not crossed. She still turns heads which is a testament to her fine breeding and stature. I believe she loves all the attention. She probably whispers to herself, "You still got it girl." Like most females she would probably not be adverse to a new coat , a coat of paint. For too long she has been seen in the same pastel shade, but she's a mature figure now. A fun, bright tint would put the colour back in her cheeks. I see Broadzilla with a tattoo emblazoned on her rear end, Born To Raise Eyebrows. Soon, we shall have a coming out party for Broadzilla and reintroduce her to the motoring public. This grand dame will enjoy cruising along at a sedate, regal pace. I do not foresee her racing the muscle-bound upstarts. She has learned to pace herself. I would not be at all surprised to discover some vintage pennies tucked into her cushions. I cannot imagine she'd short change us. 555 words Attention StephBee and Ẃeβ࿚Ẃỉtcĥ "The Bard's Hall Contest"
