When a Story Grabs Your Heart

To all you lovely readers out there in the stratosphere,

Just recently an author was referred to me for editing. She was looking for developmental advice, but that is not really my specialty. I explained that to her, yet she still asked if I would at least read the beginning and offer a review. So I agreed and read the first three chapters of her book.

I have to say, with complete honesty, that this is the best work I have been asked to edit in a very long time.

There has only been one other book in my life that affected me this way. I remember finishing that book, closing it, and within five minutes opening it again and reading the entire thing a second time. That was in 1976. Even today, without looking at it, I could still tell you the story and quote some of its passages. It went on to become a bestseller and was eventually made into a movie.

And I dare say this new book could follow along that same path.

The story centers on a young love that began in childhood and continues to grow with time. Even in just three chapters, I found myself completely absorbed. The characters feel real, the emotions are genuine, and the writing has a depth that quietly pulls the reader along without ever forcing it.

As I read, I found myself thinking about what makes a book truly great. Is it the plot? The pacing? The characters?

Perhaps it is something more difficult to define.

Some writers have a voice that is simply their own. It carries emotion in a way that feels effortless, and the reader senses it immediately. That is what this author has. Her voice is unique, and the emotional beauty of the story is deeply touching.

More than once while reading, I caught myself thinking how wonderful it would be to write with that kind of clarity and grace.

Books like this remind me why stories matter so much. Every once in a while a manuscript comes along that makes you slow down, read carefully, and savor every page. It reminds you that storytelling is not only about words on paper. It is about connection, memory, and the quiet magic of human emotion.

I have only read the first three chapters, yet I am already in love with this book.

And that, I think, is the very definition of something special.

Kind wishes,
Tee
