Memories That Stay With Us
March 16, 2026

Sometimes I ask people a simple question: What is the happiest moment of your life?

The answers are often what you might expect. Someone will say their wedding day. Another remembers a special birthday, the birth of a child, or the day they first met the love of their life. These are the moments we celebrate, the ones we frame in photographs and revisit with warm smiles.

Yet when I think about the memories that stay with me the most vividly, they are not always the happiest ones.

Some of them I would rather forget.

Strangely, those are often the memories that remain the clearest. They return without warning, sharp and bright as if they happened yesterday rather than many years ago. We may try to set them aside, but they seem to carry a certain weight that refuses to fade.

I have often wondered why that is.

If one believes that things happen for a reason, then perhaps those vivid memories remain with us because they have something to teach us. Maybe they shape our understanding of the world, or help us grow into the people we eventually become. Perhaps they remind us of lessons we might otherwise overlook.

Even the difficult memories can hold a quiet purpose.

Life has a way of weaving together joy and sorrow, triumph and disappointment. The memories we cherish and the ones we struggle with both become part of the story we carry forward.

So the next time a memory surfaces, whether it is joyful or painful, it might be worth pausing for a moment to ask why it stayed. What did it leave behind? What did it teach?

This is just something I consider for myself.

Kind wishes,
Tee
