4-27: Faery Nymph and The Avenger
Questions for April 27th:

If you were given a racehorse, what would you name it? Why?

Faery Nymph comes in...?

My horse would be named Faery Nymph as this is how I view the character of my muse. My muse is undisciplined and untamed and will only perform according her mood. If she wants to run I have no choice but to stop everything and respond to her immediate demands. On the other hand, if she refuses to get up let alone run there isn't anything I can do including using a prod that will get her to move her planted feet.

The crowd stands and screams as the track is churned mercilessly under the digging hooves of the runners. The chant "Faery Nymph" is heard loud and shrill over the names of the other horses. The microphoned announcer calls out the positions in his combination auctioneer's parody and sport casters excitment.

"...And it is Faery Nymph in the final stretch, Faery Nymph in the lead, Sparkling Prince moves from third to second and it is Faery Nymph by a length, Sparkling Prince closes, it is Faery Nymph approaching the finish by a head, Faery Nymph by a Nose and.... It is a photo finish between faery Nymph and Sparkling Prince..."

The screaming crowd barely quiets as they await the final call. The judges in the photo booth furiously play back the tape after the last of the runners cross the finish line. There is a delay as three other judges are called into the booth to view the deciding still when the laser beam was first broken.

Those watching the television get a view of the playback of the finish in slow motion and understand the judges dilemna. There isn't even a hairs width between the outstretched noses of the two horses. They finished simultaneously to perfection.

The announcer receives a call from the booth as the crowd can be heard to grow restless in their wait. Around the track the speaker sparks to life.

"Ladies and Gentlemen the judges are still trying to determine the winner of the final featured race. In third place was Trillium Bay and to show was Gryphon's Fire. Oh wait here is the judges decision, The winner of the final featured race was....."

If you were going to turn to crime to support yourself from now on, what kind of criminal would you become?

(Don't forget the reasons behind your decision!)

The Avenger for Hire

Most of my characters are really thieves at heart, but I know that I would make a very poor thief in real life. The only thing I'd gain by turning to stealing is room n board in Ulek's Cave. But then there is the other side of the thief, sort of the antisocial graduate from the world of filching to revenge and moral payment.

I think I could become a "Paladin" like creature. I am not refering to the Lawful good characters who devoutly follow their God, but rather the western Gun slinger for hire to set right the wrongs done to the innocent. I think I could rid the world of some of the insidious evil which preys upon children, the infirm, alternate lifestyles deemed as immoral but really hurt no one and women. I would work on the sliding scale concept making the assassination of an evil leader of a country the top priced item on my list since it would be the most likely to get me killed and the best favor I could do the world at large. Yes, I definately have the heart of a mercenary with mercy shown only to the victim of the evil I was hired to eliminate from this world. I would become the Judge Dred, the Robocop, the CIA's and FBI's worst nightmare, the Robyn Hood turned assassin.

Then the child nappers, rapists, torture enthusiasts, would walk around with a new threat to their viscious lust mongering. They would never know if I have them in my marksman's sights. The end would be quick and bloody but inevitable. There would be no housing cost by the state. No worry if parole will be granted to an undeserving embodyment of evil. No extra cost for the execution that is finally sanctioned and followed through. I would be the avenger applauded by the common God fearing and gentle public and cursed by law enforcement because I would have the audacity to be more efficient than their cumbersome and loopholed authority.

I wouldn't make it as a thief, but as an assassin I might make a lucritive living for a while.

Take care and may your road lead to only good places.

Deb

Compassion and the effort to try and understand some thing that was not understood before is a step toward acceptance not only of others but most importantly of yourself.
